Install before you depart
For most travellers, the calmest time to install an eSIM is before leaving home or while connected to dependable Wi-Fi. That gives you time to scan the QR code, add the eSIM and check the settings without airport pressure.
Installation and activation are not always the same
Some plans begin their validity when installed or purchased; others begin when the eSIM first connects to a supported network. Always follow the activation rule shown for your specific plan rather than assuming every eSIM works the same way.
Keep the travel line off until the right moment
Once installed, label the eSIM clearly and follow the provider instructions on when to enable the line and data roaming. Menu names vary by phone and operating system.
On arrival
Select the travel eSIM for mobile data as instructed, allow the phone time to register on a supported local network and keep your primary SIM settings aligned with how you want to receive calls and messages.
If something does not connect
Use Wi-Fi to re-check the installation instructions, selected data line and roaming setting before deleting the eSIM. Deleting an installed profile can make recovery more difficult.
